Michael McElhenie, Ph.D.
Dr. Michael McElhenie works with leaders to manage individual, team, and organizational change through executive coaching and collaborative leadership development. Michael's key area of expertise is helping executives assess the organization's culture, discover optimal mission-alignment and bridge the gap through intentional, resonant leadership. He looks past management fads and beyond what's popular to leverage both historical and contemporary approaches to drive better results.
Throughout his career, Michael has designed and led major leadership, executive coaching, change and learning projects for global and national clients, including American Airlines, Anadarko Petroleum, Berlex Pharmaceuticals, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Exelon Energy, H&R Block, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Motorola, MWH, Nortel Networks, Progressive Insurance, PwC, Sabre, Sepracor Pharmaceuticals, TXU, Texas Children's Hospital, Texas Instruments, The Nature Conservancy, Unicredito Banca, Unilever, United Nations, Victoria Order of Nurses (Canada), Wal-Mart, World Bank and YMCA. He also led major humanitarian projects, many for the United Nations, in regions around the globe: Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and the Caribbean.
Michael has over twenty years of leadership and consulting experience, and he currently runs Metatropia Institute, a leadership development and change management firm out of Dallas, Texas. He is a faculty member for Duke Corporate Education's Global Learning Resource Network, a faculty-coach for Southern Methodist University's Advanced Leadership Program and a member of the Business & Leadership Center for Integral University. He is also a Senior Associate for Teleos Leadership Institute and has worked with Teleos since its founding in 2002. Earlier in his career, he provided leadership and consulting services for Hay Management Consultants; Bigby, Havis & Associates; and Human Dynamics, Inc. His key value in every engagement has been the breadth and depth of his consulting competence and global experience. He has successfully coached high performing senior executives and has developed leadership and team capability through facilitated group processes and enhanced communications. His individual and organizational assessment expertise is exemplary; Michael uses a proven, extensive suite of tools for selecting talent, planning succession and developing leaders.
Michael received his doctorate in Organizational, Clinical and Experimental Psychology from the University of North Texas, and his Bachelor of Science in Psychology/Neuroscience from the University of Florida. He is a practicing licensed psychologist and a graduate of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland’s renowned Organizational Systems and Development program.
